1: Find your representative or senator
Using the following form will take you to a 3rd-party, not-for-profit site, GovTrack.us.
| By last name: | ||
| By state: | ||
| By zip or zip+4: | ||
2: Contact them directly
We recommend the following options, listed in order of their effectiveness.
- A hand-delivered letter to your representative’s regional (or local) office–as opposed to their D.C. office.
- A phone call to your representative’s…
- … regional office or
- … D.C. office.
- The Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121) will help connect you.
- An email delivered via your rep’s own Congressional site. If you know the name of your rep, the Web site is likely in the format “lastname.senate.gov” or “lastname.house.gov”.
BONUS! One extra tip
Keep your correspondence (or phone call) with your rep’s office short, on point, and respectful.
There are other ways to correspond with your representatives, but these are the methods we have found most effective.
